Negotiation Packages

  • Move from “positions” to packages and trades.
  • Objective: Draft 2–3 offer packages plus a fallback plan.
  • Prework: Identify top 3 interests (time, money, stability)
  • Takeaway: Offer package worksheet

Description

Successful negotiation often involves offering multiple solutions rather than focusing on a single position. This sprint introduces the concept of negotiation packages, which combine several issues into structured proposals that create opportunities for compromise. Participants learn how to frame discussions around interests rather than rigid demands.

The session focuses on developing several negotiation packages that incorporate financial and parenting considerations. Participants explore how different tradeoffs can be combined to reach mutually acceptable outcomes. By the end of the sprint, participants will have drafted multiple negotiation packages that can serve as starting points for settlement discussions.
